Take Heed

“Take heed that you are found resting all your weight on Christ’s substitution for you on the cross, and His atoning blood, or it will be better if you had never been born.”

  1. the only one who reads your blog says:

I agree with the content, but the way he says it is a little like “fall asleep or I am going to set your bed on fire”. Thankfully we recieve rest from the grace of God in the gospel through the Spirit, or I would never rest.

  2. Stephen Discher says:

I think Ryle’s point was that if you are not resting in Christ’s wrath-absorbing-work on the cross (in your place), you are still under wrath, and because of that it would be better if you hadn’t been born because it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Heb. 10:29-31). You are right though, it is very good news that we can rest because of God’s grace in Christ – He has satisfied God’s wrath. Thanks for your thoughts!
